Name: Myriam Yacoob-Descent @myrwolf
What school are you a rep for and what are you studying: Wilfrid Laurier University, Business Administration, Finance. This fall, I will be at Aarhus University in Denmark for the last semester of my under grad!
What other activities do you participate in on campus: Just completed my term as a co-president of the Laurier Sales Association. Hobbies are mountain biking, lacrosse, hockey, Crossfit and powerlifting!
Workout of choice: “Grace”, a CrossFit WOD of 30 clean & jerks for time.
Favourite exercise: Front squats & deadlifts.
What made you want to join #TeamJS as a Campus Rep: When I joined back in the fall of 2014 I was so refreshed by a supplement company that catered specifically to students. JS understood the “student budget” and always put customer service as a main priority, both of which I value highly. I thought – this is game-changing and I’d kill to be on this rad team!
How did you get started on your fitness journey: Early in 2014, I was diagnosed with anorexia.. Not cool. I wanted to stay in school and the only way to do so was to recover. During recovery, I switched completely from running a marathon every day to lifting weights only. AND I LOVED IT (and I could eat more cuz #gains). . I remember having a goal to be able to do 5 consecutive push-ups hahah. I eventually crossed paths with a guy from my gym that introduced me to CrossFit; I was hooked. I trained hard and ate lots and joined the completive team at my box. Fast forward a year and I discovered powerlifting. And now I have Simon Otero from the YouTube channel “Massthetics” prepping me for my first powerlifting meet this fall!
Most fulfilling moment as a Campus Rep: I think the most fulfilling moment is when you get messages from people you’ve never met asking for you to hook them up with some supps from JackedScholar and then hearing later that they loved the product.
Decked out the Wilf statue in a #TeamJS shirt!
Favourite gym tracks:
FML – K.Flay (Vanic Remix)
Renegades – Jenaux ft. Pia Toscano
No Hands – Waka Flocka Flame
Angle - DVVBS
What advice would you give to others who are looking to make a change in their life: Always make a plan. When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to fall off the wagon if you’re not prepared. Plan your workouts, your meals, and always track your progress. At the same time, however, don’t forget that while gym=life, it is important to balance. Lift heavy, make friends, and enjoy the ride. And in the wise words of The Rock “FOCUS!”.
