7 Timeless Virtues of Enlightened Living

Each and every one of us wants to live the happiest and healthiest life possible. In essence, is that not what life's all about, feeling healthy and happy? All of us struggle from time to time to be both of these things, but we should do everything within our control to stay healthy and happy. I recently read a book called “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” and it was an amazing read. Specifically, there were 7 virtues this book discussed which lead to living a happy, fulfilled, and healthy life. Over the course of this blog we will look at 3 of these 7 virtues and how you can apply them to your everyday life.

Virtue 1

Master your mind; In order to be happy and healthy we must take control over our mind. We just give attention to our thoughts and not allow our minds to run wild all day. Taking mind time is a vital part of a healthy life. This can include practices such as meditation, yoga or simply sitting still and truly living in the present moment. Most of the pain and suffering in our life is the fear of things that “might happen” (the key word here being might.) Master your mind and do not allow your thoughts to aimlessly wander. This will help you live a more fulfilled and happy life.

Virtue 2

Follow your purpose; How many of us have given up on our dreams or not even entertained chasing them because of the bullshit story we tell ourselves or the bullshit opinions we listen to day in and day out. So many people are not even coming close to tapping into their full potential because they have simply written their dreams off as unrealistic, impossible, or too hard. One of the keys to living a happy life is to do something you love; stop listening to others and stop telling yourself you can't. You can and there is no better time to start than right now.

Practice Kaizen; When is the last time you learned a new skill? Read a new book? Tried a new workout routine or simply did something that makes you feel uncomfortable? The practice of Kaizen is about constantly improving and learning throughout your entire life. All too often we graduate university or quit playing sports and that's it, we stop trying new things and learning new things. This is one of the worst things we can do that prevent us from maintaining a fulfilled life. As human beings we are wired to be challenged and thrive when we are learning and always getting better. Do something this week that you have never done before, challenge yourself, grow.
